CatIQ and PERILS release industry loss updates for Jasper Wildfire, Severe Storm Outbreak in Canadian Prairies
CatIQ and PERILS have today disclosed their final industry loss estimate for the Jasper Wildfire complex of July 2024. They have also released the six-week post-event industry loss estimate for the convective storm outbreak of June 2026 which affected Saskatchewan and Manitoba in the Canadian Prairies.
The sixth estimate for the Jasper Wildfire, which provides a snapshot of the insurance market two-years post-event, is CAD 1,304 million. This compares to the fifth loss estimate of CAD 1,313 million, issued one year after the event.
The six-week post-event estimate for the convective storm outbreak of June 2026 stands at CAD 850 million. This reflects an increase versus the initial estimate, with growth in the motor line of business dominating the change.
These industry loss estimates are based on data collected from affected insurers and cover property (both commercial and residential) and vehicle (motor) claims.
