CatIQ and PERILS today disclosed their second industry loss estimate for the severe thunderstorm event that affected southern Ontario and southern Quebec in late June and early July 2026.
The second estimate for the storms, which provides a snapshot of the insurance market 45 days post-event, is CAD 439 million. This marks an increase from the initial loss estimate of CAD 374 million, issued three weeks after the event.
Industry loss estimates are based on data collected directly from affected insurers and cover property (both commercial and residential) and vehicle (motor) claims.
