The PERILS Team

The PERILS team consists of highly experienced re/insurance professionals
with educational backgrounds in natural sciences, mathematics, civil engineering, finance and business administration. Our combined insurance industry experience is over 60 years. Non-core administrative activities,
such as office IT management and development, accounting and human resources services, are outsourced to third parties. As a result, our team can focus fully on our core activity which is the aggregation and provision of industry-wide catastrophe insurance data.

 

Luzi Hitz (email: luzi.hitz (AT) perils.org) has a 14-year track record in the reinsurance industry. He has held various risk management and under-
writing leadership positions at Swiss Re, Glacier Re and Asia Capital Re. Through-
out his career, Luzi has been involved in natural catastrophe risk assessment and management and has published numerous papers and speeches about the subject. He holds a Master’s degree in geology and a PhD in geophysics.

 

Peter Frei (email: peter.frei (AT) perils.org) has 20 years of professional experience in leadership positions in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Peter’s areas of expertise are under-
writing, enterprise exposure manage-
ment, large loss reserving, retrocession and model development. He received a special award from ESRI for developing a GIS- (geographic information system) based enterprise exposure management system and was involved in multidiscipli-
nary loss assessment projects (e.g. Windstorm Lothar). Peter holds a Master’s degree in civil engineering with specialization in earthquake engineering and is member of a number of professional associations (e.g. SIA, SGEB, EERI, SSA).

 

Edina Gallos (email: edina.gallos (AT) perils.org) has over a decade of professional experience in design and communication. Following her training as a multimedia producer at the School of Audio Engineering (Zurich), she has worked in the areas of digital arts, graphics and web design, specializing in corporate communications for both printed and electronic media for the last three years.

 

Over the last 15 years, Eduard (Edi) Held (email: eduard.held (AT) perils.org) has worked in finance, risk man-
agement, e-commerce, and natural catastrophe risk assessment and model development. Prior to joining PERILS, Edi was CFO for Swiss Re in Asia. Edi has a Master’s degree in mathematics and a PhD in atmospheric sciences. During his professional career, Edi has authored numerous speeches and papers on natural catastrophe risk assessment.

 

Catherine Weber (email: catherine.weber (AT) perils.org) has 17 years of professional experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Catherine has worked as a property underwriter, client relationship manager and communication & event manager both in Zurich and in Paris. She holds a diploma of the Business School EAD (Ecole d’Administration et de Direction des Affaires, Paris).
